When there's an imbalance in the gut microbiota, the intestinal lining can become compromised. This condition—commonly referred to as "leaky gut"—allows substances like toxins, undigested food particles, and hormones to pass through the gut wall and enter the bloodstream. Since these substances are not meant to be in the blood, the immune system may identify them as foreign invaders and trigger an immune response. Over time, this can lead to chronic inflammation and contribute to the development of autoimmune conditions such as Rheumatoid Arthritis and Hashimoto’s thyroiditis.

One major therapeutic approach to managing autoimmune diseases is to heal and restore the gut lining. By restoring the integrity of the gut barrier, the immune system may begin to calm down, and symptoms can start to improve.
